This dent allows the flywheel a little slop (tips of the fan blades move about 1/4 in) but when clamped down with the nut it sits tight in the dent. I put a drill on the clutch side of the crank and got a really strong spark out of it from the wire to the cylinder but the plug wasn't as good. I ordered a new NGK plug but used a spare champion (totally wrong, no resistor, wrong heat) that fit as a test and still couldn't get it to fire but wasn't sure if I would damage it with no resistor so I switched back. I tried moving the module forward in a few positions to compensate for the flywheel moving back on the shaft but it was no different. I have PDFs of the service manuals and IPLs but the part where it covers the electronic ignition doesn't mention adjusting the timing. I got it to backfire once on the old plug and original module position but that's it. Im no 2 stroke mechanic but I would think that even with low compression it would pop or run for a few seconds. I've tried mixed gas, WD40, starting fluid and cant get anything.
Step 13 of 15: Release the chain brake by pulling the chain brake handle toward you with your left hand. Keep hold of the handlebar with your left hand as you do this. When you hear a click sound, this means the chain has been released and can turn on the bar. Step 14 of 15: Before getting started, check the chain lubrication. Hold up the saw against a light-colored background, such as a tree trunk or a piece of paper on the ground and open the throttle fully. If some chain lubricant appears on the light-colored background, then you can start work. Step 15 of 15: The saw is now ready for use. For safe working practices please refer to your Instruction Manual. Starting a chain saw

Off you go! You have checked that your working area is safe. Now you can get going with your saw! For each of the following steps, please observe the safety precautions, including those given in your Instruction Manual. Step 1 of 15: Before starting your chain saw, the chain brake should be activated by pushing it forward (see picture). Step 2 of 15: Always remove the bar cover before starting your chain saw. Step 3 of 15: If your chain saw is fitted with a decompression valve, press it now. It assists with firing the engine and starting your chain saw. Step 4 of 15: If your chain saw has a primer bulb, press it several times. This assists with starting and reduces the number of pulls needed to start. Step 5 of 15: Setting the master control lever to Choke / Cold start. First press the throttle trigger lockout and the throttle trigger. Then press the master control lever all the way down. Step 6 of 15: To start the chain saw, lay it on a flat surface. The cutting attachment must not be in contact with the ground to avoid blunting it when starting and putting yourself unnecessarily at risk.
So a few weeks ago I bought 2 stihl weed wackers and a TS350 saw for a total of $8 at an auction. I got one weed wacker running good and parted out the other on ebay and I plan on using that money to rebuild the saw. The saw has only 60 psi compression and I want to rebuild it just for the fun of it. But before I spend the money to rebuild it I want at least a sign of life out of the thing. Its a later model TS350 (same as a 08S chainsaw) with electronic ignition and overall useable condition. When I first started working on it I couldn't get it to fire at all and figured I had ignition problems so I ordered the flywheel puller on ebay. I pulled the cylinder off while waiting for the puller and it looks like a piece of the piston chipped off and trashed the whole top end. When the puller came I got the flywheel off and cleaned the dust/grime off of the magnets and coil, but noticed that the groove that the key sits in on the flywheel has a dent in the side of it the size of the key (probably indented when the piston broke and it stopped hard).
I just want a sign out of it that if I spend the money to rebuild the saw it won't be wasted. I'm already kind of at my budget with the parts I want to buy and cant really afford to buy a flywheel or ignition module. Any ideas?
