Edit Scarlett reappears in This Lullaby as the manager of Jump Java. Places Edit Macy goes to Milton's Market with Wes in The Truth About Forever. Things Edit Sarah's Words from Sarahland Edit Of all the books I've written, I have to say that Someone Like You has the biggest legion of fans. Even my cousins Rachel and Anna, who are usually my very first readers of any book I write, will often tell me that while the new book is good, Someone Like You was better. At the time it was published, I wasn't so sure. The editing process for Someone Like You was really long and arduous, mostly due to the fact that I always have way more than I need and tend to repeat myself a lot. (Thank goodness I have been blessed with exceptionally good, and patient, editors. ) Plus there was a little bit of pressure since That Summer had been well-received.
I like how Dessen works in Michael's official, model girlfriend's attitude of not really caring so much about families or doing the right thing and then contrasts it to Scarlett's choice and the subsequent fallout in public opinion. Even Macon's more than just a two-dimensional bad boy. So I highly recommend this book. Heads up to moms, the book does contain some language and scenes of alcohol and drug use, but these scenes are handled in an accurate way. I remember having the distinct thought that my daughters should read this book when they're in high school. 5 people found this helpful Crystal @ I Totally Paused! 4. 0 out of 5 stars Fabulous YA fiction 28 December 2011 - One of my favorite things about Sarah Dessen is how realistic she can be when it comes to how it felt to be a teenager. It's something that I think we tend to forget as adults, but reading one of her books really brings me back to how it all was. In fact, I would say that any parent to a teenage girl would be wise to pick up some Dessen as a method to better understanding their daughter.
Halley gets drunk before she can do it. When she throws up and leaves, Macon is furious because he thought she was just leading him on. While he is driving her home, he is too busy shouting at her to watch the road and they get into a major car accident. Before going into the emergency room, Macon holds Halley's hand tightly and says, "I love you. " Halley is seriously injured and taken to hospital. Macon didn't visit. Her mother is disappointed in her because she does not know the truth about what really happened. Part III: Grace Edit After Halley gets out of the hospital, Macon comes to see her at her window. Halley having had enough breaks up with him which breaks his heart because he then realizes he's in love with her. Her mother comes down and starts to shout at her for seeing Macon and then Halley explains what has just happened. She also tells her mother how she feels about all the restrictions she has put on her and they come to an understanding: both of them will try harder to get on.
