El plato del buen comer representa un plato dividido en 5 porciones de diferente tamaño y con un fondo de distinto color que representa los 3 colores de un semáforo: verde, ámbar y rojo, asociándose a las ideas principales que trasmiten estos colores: verde-sano, ámbar-precaución y rojo-prohibido. En la parte roja están aquellos alimentos que se deben consumir de manera ocasional. En la parte naranja, los que se pueden comer un poco más que los anteriores. En la parte amarilla, los que se pueden ingerir regularmente, pero con moderación. Y en la parte verde los que se pueden consumir sin restricción. En la parte superior del plato encontramos un tercio del plato dividido en dos partes iguales con un fondo de color verde, es decir; alimentos que se deben consumir a diario ya que son muy sanos. Y las comidas que aquí se incluyen son las frutas y las verduras que aportan vitaminas, minerales y fibras que ayudan al buen funcionamiento de todos los sistemas del cuerpo humano, así como al crecimiento y el fortalecimiento del sistema inmunológico.
