Even so Yahoo seems doomed from the start - a set of average products in the right place and then a set of random technology bets with no sense of direction. It's over by the time Marissa starts but no-one seems to be able to see this. Their shared history and weird loyalty blinds them to the fact that Yahoo could never have survived. 3. 0 out of 5 stars A Premature Birth Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 20, 2018 Verified Purchase Carlson is a really good journalist but you really feel that his big book on the Valley lies ahead of him. The pressure to get this one out while Marissa Mayer was still a story really tells in the closing chapters. Looking forward to Yahoo! - the Sequel.... Very interesting, highly recommended. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 12, 2015 Verified Purchase Very interesting book, and a very easy read, especially if you have been following the industry. A big chunk of it is about the history of Yahoo, and then the history of Google. It comes with a disclaimer than none on of the facts have been confirmed by Ms Mayer- but then even if they were, they might still have been biased.
Nice little fairy tale Birleşik Krallık'ta 15 Aralık 2018 tarihinde değerlendirildi Doğrulanmış Alışveriş Nice little fairy tale. A what-if story. A twisted take on a well known L. Carroll Alice-story. If you like fantasy, a bit of playfulness, if you allow your mind wander a bit and don't take everything too seriously then there's a chance you'll like this book. I enjoyed it a lot! Yes, it's a bit loose, a bit illogical, a bit under-developed but these are partly the reasons why I liked it. It's a mind-game, but because you know that and won't get sucked in and it's not gonna ruin *your* mind. You see through the threads, you'll be able to see the reality, as well as "the other, the real story" through loosely knitted fabric of this text. It's not tight by any means, it allows you to daydream while you read it with a smirk on your face and a piece of cake on your plate next to the book. Yup. It's gonna make you eat some serious cake. We Are All Mad Here, Don't You Know. Birleşik Krallık'ta 27 Aralık 2017 tarihinde değerlendirildi Doğrulanmış Alışveriş Do not read this book if you're hungry or craving lemon or pumpkin tarts.
She gives it her own touches, her own twists and it becomes hers. We've all seen loads of interpretations of the Mad Hatter and Hatter in Heartless is by far my favourite. The main character, Catherine will have you cheering her on and wanting to be best friends with her (even if its just so she can make you delicious treats). Jest will make you swoon and fall in love with someone who wear one of those strange jester hats. Never thought I'd have such strong feelings for a jester. Heartless is full of wonder and delight but it's also dark and creepy in places. It makes it a wholly unique experience to read. I will reread this one forever. 4. 5 stars!! 5 yıldız üzerinden 4, 0 Slow start but worth sticking with Birleşik Krallık'ta 30 Temmuz 2018 tarihinde değerlendirildi Doğrulanmış Alışveriş This book is a slow-burner but it is definately worth sticking with. It tells the story of the Queen of Hearts and how she came to be as she was. If you are a fan of Lewis Carroll's Wonderland stories, then there are few suprises in this book - it follows the Alice stories very well (although it is dealing with events before these books) and captures the essence of Wonderland without changing too much of the world created by Lewis Carroll.
I found that to be especially true of Winter. Cinder, Scarlet and Cress introduce us to the respective characters and build up to an explosive conclusion to the series. The main books are those 4. Fairest of Them All is a companion book that offers Levana's (evil stepmother to Winter) and Stars Above - a set of short stories that take place after Winter. The Lunar Chronicles is delightful, tragic, and remarkable. 8 people found this helpful
'And if you're still having a terrible time at time x, you can leave. ' " 5. Even her cupcake recipe is based on analytics. Mayer's baking style is a fascinating window into how she tackles projects and problems. According to a 2008 feature in San Francisco magazine, Mayer worked her way through "an array of cookbooks, " testing each recipe and marking its pros and cons on a spreadsheet. Shortcuts were a non-starter: She had a separate spreadsheet for frosting and had extensively thought through the pluses and minuses of different paper linings. ("The problem with the silver ones is that they seal the cupcake, " she told the magazine. "You've got to go with the classic paper, which allows the cupcake to breathe. ") This systematic, research-driven approach to baking apparently is emblematic of her overall decision-making strategy. Even as a high school senior, when she was accepted to 10 colleges, she settled on Stanford by making a spreadsheet that ranked each school by criteria including median S. A. T. scores.
Mayer also attracted big names like journalist Katie Couric, but ultimately, she was unable to turn around Yahoo in her five years leading the business.
This book is crammed full of delicious foods, and the descriptive writing is just as delicious to be honest. It's a largely nonsensical story, but not silly at all. There are lots of characters from the World of Hearts, but also some creatures you could easily imagine in a World of Lewis Carroll's making - it's a really fun, unique collection of ideas and characters that it's difficult not to enjoy reading about. The story however isn't about Alice this time; it's a really warm-hearted, but dastardly, tale of the Queen of Hearts, Catherine, before she became Queen. It's difficult to like the Queen if you know the story of Alice, but actually Cath is a really lovely character with a dream of owning her own bakery with her friend and maid servant Mary Ann. She just loves to bake, but her parents are determined she must marry the King of the cheerful yet annoying little man himself is determined for the same. I loved Cath and her nature. She's a treacherous character with some fire in her belly.
